Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka has revealed that he almost gave up football a couple of years ago before making a successful move to the Blucerchiati.

Okaka had a difficult time at former club Parma but has found his feet at Sampdoria and is looking to play for Italy at Euro 2016.

“I was not enjoying myself at Parma,” Okaka told Sport Italia.

“Before coming to Sampdoria I thought about quitting football altogether. But now I am happy here at Sampdoria and enjoying my football.

“It is because of coach [Sinisa] Mihajlovic and his tactics that I am able to perform at such a high level.

“Playing for Italy and being under a coach like [Antonio] Conte is great.

“Although I only played in a friendly it was still a great experience.

“I have to keep proving my worth here at Sampdoria and I hope to be fighting for a place in the national squad for the tournament in France.
