Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin believes that the Rossoblu have been doing a good job at proving they can handle going up against the biggest clubs in Italy and he hopes that his team can continue doing well.

The Grifone currently sit in third place in the Serie A standings ahead of their upcoming match with Scudetto contenders Roma on Sunday and the 22-year-old insists that Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will give their best efforts against all opponents, no matter their ranking, in order to earn as many points as possible.

Perin recently spoke to the press at the Genoa Museum and Store about the Genoese club’s success this season thus far and commented on the possibility of Genoa earning a place in European competition.

“Now we are where we want to be and we want to enjoy this moment,” said the Italian international.

“However, we want to prove that we can handle playing with all of the best teams in the league and occupy a good position in the standings.

“Let’s not say that Genoa must earn a spot in Europe now because then if we don’t, we’ll be seen as a failure.

“We will do our best against all teams, both large and small, with the desire to bring home as many points as possible. And then we will see where we are at the end of the season.

“However, our current success will always be seen as an improvement when compared to what we managed to do last season.”
