Sampdoria concluded their last Serie A game of the calendar year with a draw against Udinese.

Although the Zebrette enjoyed a 2-1 advantage after goals from Alexandre Geijo and Danilo cancelled out Pedro Obiang’s early strike.

Manolo Gabbiadini’s second half effort was enough to salvage a draw at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as they hope to keep pushing for a European football spot next season.

What do you think of our ratings? Have your say in the comments below.

Sampdoria

Sergio Romero – 5 – Standard

Did not do too badly but could have done more to prevent Geijo’s goal.

Vasco Regini – 4.5 – Slow

Off the pace and sloppy in defense. Unable to stop Geijo from scoring and left his colleagues scrambling to cover due to his poor positioning.

Daniele Gastaldello – 5 – Shaky

Appeared to be unsure and unsteady and was culpable for Danilo’s goal.

Djamel Mesbah – 5.5 – Timid

Among the better of his defensive colleagues as he oftentimes had to cover for Regini, but was afraid to venture forward much.

Lorenzo De Silvestri – 6 – Amends

Made amends from his indifferent first-half showing with an assist for Sampdoria’s equalizer.

Angelo Palombo – 5 – Problematic

Sloppy in possession. Not a game to remember for the veteran and vice-captain.

Roberto Soriano – 6 – Improved

A passenger in the first half but improved significantly after the half-time break.

Pedro Obiang – 7.5 – Crucial

Scored a great goal and while not the fastest on the pitch always found himself in the right spots.

Eder – 6.5 – Enterprising

A constant nuisance to Udinese due to his energetic runs and was unfortunate not to earn himself a goal for his efforts.

Manolo Gabbiadini – 7 – Decisive

Struggled in the first half but proved his class by popping up with a vital equalizer in the second.

Stefano Okaka – 5.5 – Indifferent

Stifled during the first half due to Danilo’s marking but still contributed in the second, although was unable to have the influence he had desired.

Substitutes

Gonzalo Bergessio – N/A

Fabrizio Cacciatore – N/A

Udinese

Orestis Karnezis – 5 – Unlucky

Not an overall impressive performance from the Greek shot-stopper. Was off on his timing to prevent Sampdoria’s first goal but could do little about Gabbiadini’s equalizer.

Danilo – 6 – Solid

Put in a better shift than his fellow defenders but was unable to deal well with the offensive power of the hosts.

Thomas Heurtaux – 4.5 – Reckless

Like his colleagues, struggled against the attacking efforts of the Blucerchiati and committed a needless foul that saw him sent off and leave his team with 10 men.

Molla Wague – 5.5 – Fair

Held his own against the pace and power of Okaka but as a whole, Udinese’s back-line did not put in a good defensive shift against their hungry opponents.

Silvan Widmer – 5.5 – Contributed

Was better in offense than in defense but made some decent contributions to support his team’s attack.

Giovanni Pasquale – 5 – Faded

Not an afternoon to remember for the former Italian U-21 international.

Giampiero Pinzi – 6 – Solid

Served as the team’s skipper and battled well in midfield but struggled to deal with pace of Sampdoria’s attack.

Emmanuel Ageymang-Badu – 6 – Combative

Contributed decently to the offense and was not afraid to get stuck in in the middle of the park.

Panagiotis Kone – 5.5 – Blunt

Assisted the second goal but fans would have certainly expected more of him, given his quality.

Cyril Thereau – 6.5 – Hustling

Did not score, but still held the ball up well for his teammates and overall can be fairly satisfied with his performance.

Alexandre Geijo – 7 – Energetic

Earned his first league goal and never stopped running during his time on the pitch.

Substitutes

Gabriel Silva – N/A

Bruno Fernandes – N/A

Antonio Di Natale – 6 – lmpact

The veteran striker cause Sampdoria fans some worry as he was keen on making his threat known immediately after being thrown into action.
