Torino came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

Kamil Glik was the hero for the Granata with a superb brace off two Alexander Farnerud set-pieces in a game that Torino largely dominated but still went behind just before half time to a Iago Falque strike.

Torino

Jean-François Gillet – 6 – Untested

Had nothing to do until Iago Falque’s shot, possibly could have done better but had several defenders in front of him. Made a couple of routine saves in the second half.

Nikola Maksimovic – 5 – Average

Played reasonably well but struggled at times when Matri drifted out to the left.

Emiliano Moretti – 6 – Agitated

Seemed worked up from the start, failed to make an impact on the game in footballing terms except for when his header created an opportunity for Glik to score on the rebound. He celebrated away from the captain.

Kamil Glik – 8.5 – Captain

Dominant at the back with a no nonsense approach to dealing with Genoa forwards. Ghosted in behind the defence from Farnerud free kick to volley past Lamanna. Scored a second on the hour mark as he headed in the rebound after from Moretti’s saved effort. Real captain’s performance.

Cristian Molinaro – 6 – Dependable

Reliable performance at left back until he was replaced by Bruno Peres after picking up an injury.

Matteo Darmian – 5 – Quiet

Typically lively down the right wing but fairly quiet by his standards.

Alessandro Gazzi – 8 – Dominant

Effectively broke up play in a midfield that he ran. His driving runs were a constant problem for a Genoa midfield that was outmuscled and outplayed.

Alexander Farnerud – 7.5 – Creative

Saw his powerful free kick thunder off the bar with Lamanna beaten in the first half and provided quality passes for the duration of the match including the crosses for both goals.

Omar El Kaddouri – 7 – Dangerous

Effective down left flank, provided good service to strikers.

Amauri – 6 – Hard-working

A thorn in Genoa’s side, went close with bicycle kick in the opening minutes. Worked hard before being subbed on 67 minutes. Looked disappointed to be substituted.

Josef Martínez – 7 – Lively

Dropped deep well to link play with midfield while also running off Amauri. Close to scoring in off an El Kaddouri cross. Headed over another good chance. Perhaps could have had Torino ahead earlier with more of a killer instinct.

Substitutes

Bruno Meres – 6 – Assured

Looked assured defensively.

Fabio Quagliarella – 5 – Ineffectual

Caught the eye with a couple of speculative efforts, one bicycle kick that was offside and a comfortable save.

Giuseppe Vives sub – N/A

Genoa

Eugenio Lamanna – 4 – Below-par

Saved well early on from Amauri. Beaten by Farnerud driven free kick but saved by the crossbar. Made more good saves in the second half but should have pushed Moretti’s header to safety for second rather than into Glik’s path.

Facundo Roncaglia – 5 – Elusive

Nowhere to be seen for much of the game!e not came to life towards the end of the match as Genoa pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Nicolas Burdisso – 4 – Awkward

Conceded the free kick which Farnerud crashed against the bar. Looked shaky at times and didn’t enjoy the presence of Martinez. Lucky not to concede a penalty for handball in the 65th minute.

Giovanni Marchese 6 – Fading

The experienced defender nullified many of Torino’s attacks with well-timed challenges but faded in the second half before being taken off.

Luca Antonelli – 5 – Struggling

Genoa captain let Glik go for Torino’s equaliser. Failed to drag his side back into the game afterwards.

Aleandro Rosi – 6 – Fighter

Took his fair share of knocks as he toiled on the right wing. Fought hard. Substituted just after half time.

Andrea Bertolacci – 6 – Uninspiring

First to have a meaningful shot at Torino’s goal on the half hour mark but dragged his shot wide. Subbed off at half time.

Tomas Rincón – 4 – Invisible

The game passed him by.

Stefano Sturaro – 6 – Reliable

Did his best to keep Darmian quiet down Genoa’s left

Iago Falqué – 7 – Momentary

Took his goal well against the run of play at the end of the second with a low driven shot from just outside the area but did little else for the remainder of the game.

Alessandro Matri – 5 – Sporadic

Looked most likely to unlock Torino defence early on before Iago Falque struck. Caused problems in the second half when he weaved into the the penalty area to be questionably brought down by Glik. Drifted in and out of the game.

Substitutes

Leandro Greco – 5 – Promising

Brought some quality to Genoa’s play but did not provide anything to change the game.

Sebastian De Maio – 5 – Inadequate

Nowhere near as lively as Rosi whom he replaced, lacked the same attacking verve.

Armando Izzo – N/A
