Roma forward Gervinho has praised Thierry Henry following his retirement on December 16 and revealed that the Arsenal legend is one of his idols.

The 27-year-old, who played for the Gunners from 2011-13, never had the opportunity to play alongside the Frenchman but admits that he’s happy to have met and played against the former New York Red Bulls forward before the end of his career.

Gervinho posted on his official Instagram profile after hearing the news of Henry’s retirement and gave his best wishes to the 37-year-old, who is now preparing to begin a new career at Sky Sports.

“I had the pleasure of meeting my idol and playing against him,” wrote the Roma man, alongside a picture collage of him and his footballing idol.

“Good luck on your next adventure.”

Despite being mainly known for his achievements at Arsenal, Henry also had a short stint in the Serie A at Juventus during the second half of the 1998-99 season, scoring three goals in his 16 league appearances for the Bianconeri.
