Giuseppe Rossi ItalyFiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi has set himself the target of returning to the Italian national team in time for the 2016 European Championships in France.

The American born attacker’s career has been blighted by a succession of serious knee injuries and he is not expected back in action until next year as he recovers from a torn meniscus.

“It is a heavy shirt [Italy], which gives big responsibility,” asserted the 27 year old at the launch of his new book.

“I want to go back to wearing it in major tournaments and to have so many fans follow me. My relationship with the national team is strong and I really want to return.

“My exclusion form the World Cup in Brazil? I do not want to think about it, my focus is now to work for 2016 [European Championships] and 2018 [World Cup].

“[Antonio] Conte following me? It’s nice, I hope to be useful.”

Rossi joined Fiorentina in January 2013, but has only made 22 appearances for the Viola due to injury.
