Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoletti has been in England this week for talks with Championship strugglers Leeds United.

The forward was chased throughout the summer by the Italian-owned Yorkshire outfit without success, but now a move seems closer than ever.

Pavoletti travelled to Leeds in order to learn more about the club and owner Massimo Cellino. The 26-year-old had a tour of the stadium and training ground, while also witnessing the Whites’ latest defeat at home to Wigan Athletic from the stands on Friday.

He banged in 24 league goals to finish second-top scorer in Serie B last season while on loan at Varese, but has so far failed to nail down a starting place back at Sassuolo.

Earlier this month, Pavoletti stepped off the bench to score his first goal of the campaign in a 2-1 defeat away to Palermo.

If everything goes according to plan, then a deal could materialise in January for the Livorno-born striker.
