Frosinone surprisingly fell to a 1-0 defeat to Ternana at the Stadio Matusa on Friday night in Serie B.

A strike from Davide Gavazzi gave Ternana the win and prevented the Gialloblu from taking top spot with Carpi playing tomorrow.

A terribly foggy evening meant that visibility was seriously impaired in Central Italy but the match went ahead anyway.

The home team started on the upper hand when Danilo Soddimo’s effort went wide of the target.

Then, Fere took the lead through Gavazzi who latched on to Fabio Ceravolo’s through ball and beat the keeper.

Ternana went into the break in the lead and deservedly so.

In the 58th minute, Biagio Meccariello jumped highest from a corner but sent his header quite a way wide of the post.

Fifteen minutes later, some good work from Soddimo on the left created a chance for Daniel Ciofani but his effort towards the bottom left corner was denied by Alberto Brignoli.

The fog was consistent and so was the pressure from the Ciociari and this time it was Federico Dionisi who blazed his effort over the bar following a miraculous save by Brignoli to thwart Robert Gucher.

The away side could have made it two in injury time as they went on the counter-attack and Felipe Avenatti squared for Valeri Bojinov scuffed his effort wide incredibly.

Ternana held on to win the game and inflict Frosinone’s first home defeat of the season. The home side will be more upset that they missed their chance to go to the top of the table and leapfrog Carpi.
