Former Genoa defender Claudio Testoni believes that the Rossoblu can finish the 2014-15 Serie A season in third place based on the club’s impressive showing this season thus far.

The Grifone already sit in third place in the league standings with 26 points after their 1-0 victory over AC Milan on Sunday, but still have Sampdoria, Napoli and Lazio trailing closely behind, though the 57-year-old is confident that Gian Piero Gasperini’s men can keep a hold on their current position as long as they believe in themselves and avoid selling any key players during the January transfer window.

Testoni spoke to Tuttomercatoweb.com about Genoa’s successful run this campaign and commented on what the team must do in order to secure a top three finish.

“We have to bow down to this Genoa,” said the ex-defender. “A team as good as this one can only be applauded, along with coach Gasperini for knowing how to discover and develop players like Stefano Sturaro and Diego Perotti, to name a few.

“Genoa have been able to beat big teams, but since they are now in third that is no longer the case. They have beaten both Juventus and Milan, there are specific qualities that come out after achievements like these.

“I would like to praise Giovanni Marchese and Luca Antonelli, with humility and commitment they have earned a place in the sun.

“They have made themselves available to help the cause and are now Genoa sit among the best teams in the league.

“Is a third place finish possible? Of course, now Genoa must only believe in it. They can withstand the difficulties. It will not be easy but they can do it, given the team doesn’t isn’t affected by the January market.

“If the club does not lose any of its current players then the team will have a really good chance at succeeding.”
