Italian centre forward Luca Toni has deflected rumors regarding his future plans by stating that his focus remains with helping Hellas Verona this season.

The 37-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2015 and there has been a difference of opinion as to whether Toni will pen a new deal with the Gialloblu.

“Now, I am only focused on saving Verona. Then I will talk with my family and decide my future,” said the centre forward when he appeared as a guest in a show organised by Sky Sport Italia.

The former Roma player then reiterated that he still can play football at the highest level although his level of intensity might not be the same.

“I think I’m still in condition, although in recent years the level of intensity has certainly come down.

“My career has always been a challenge. I have had to make continuous comebacks into the game and start from scratch. After six months at Roma I wanted greater continuity so I went to Verona.”

And despite his age, Toni recently notched up 300 professional goals after scoring in the 2-1 win against Udinese.

“I’ve always wanted to play and staying on the bench does not sit well with me. I need to play to keep up my physical fitness. I had some trouble at Genoa and at Juventus [Antonio] Conte had other plans.”

Toni previously played for Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Palermo and the Old Lady as well.
