Torino came from behind to stun Genoa and win 2-1 on Sunday at Stadio Olimpico.

The Grifone went ahead thanks to an Iago Falque’s strike just before the break, but Granata captain scored twice in the space of 11 minutes to ensure Torino finished 2014 with a win.

Genoa were fired up right from the start, fueled by their 1-0 loss to Roma a week ago.  Andrea Bertolacci and Facundo Roncaglia tested Jean-Francois Gillet early on, with saves by the goalkeeper to keep it scoreless.

Alexander Farnerud bounced a free kick off of the crossbar for Torino, as they looked to go ahead first, playing with intensity that was equal to their counterparts.

Josef Martinez also failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities, the best of which he sent wide from six yards out.

Genoa grabbed the lead right before halftime, as Falque sent a low hard strike into the far right corner, beating a diving Gillet. Falque was able to capitalize on a wonderful pass by Stefano Sturaro, who won possession of the ball in midfield.

Substitute Leandro Greco nearly doubled Genoa’s lead immediately after the break, when he pounced on a Cristian Molinaro error, but he butchered the final touch.

Torino survived the early second-half ambush, and broke through in the 52nd minute, courtesy of a brilliant set piece taken by Alexander Farnerud, who lofted the ball from just outside the box, over the back line of defense, timing it perfectly for a sprinting Glik who slammed the ball past a helpless Eugenio Lamanna.

Building on the momentum of their fantastic first goal, Torino struck again only 11 minutes later, as Glik headed home his second goal of the match from very close range, from a corner.

Genoa did not go down without a fight, but they failed to capitalize on a handful of very good opportunities in the second half.
