Perugia mounted an impressive second half comeback to earn a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Polisportivo Provinciale in Serie B action on Friday night.

Pavel Vidanov’s header and Simone Basso’s strike doubled Trapani’s lead before a second-half header from Edoardo Goldaniga and a Diego Falcinelli penalty concluded an exciting match and sent the Grifoni home with a valuable point. Serie-B-300x181

The visitors generated the first threat within the opening seconds when Falcinelli was fed a through ball in the box but Luca Pagliarulo stretched out and managed to block the left-footed strike.

The sides shared no less than four more golden chances on goal in the first 15 minutes before Vidanov sprinted away from his mark and acrobatically headed a corner past a stumbling Ivan Provedel to put the Sicilians on top.

Near the half hour mark Perugia nearly drew level when Davide Lanzafame expertly controlled a long pass, dribbled through and then past a host of Trapani defenders and curled an inviting cross to Nicolo Fazzi who was left alone at the far post but the midfielder rushed his shot unnecessarily and the chance went begging.

Moments later Lanzafame nearly scored a stunning bicycle kick which just sailed over the crossbar.

Trapani capitalized before the stroke of half time when Basso latched onto a headed ball and hit a right footed wonder strike into the top corner to send the hosts into the locker room with a seemingly comfortable two goal cushion.

The Grifoni immediately reduced the deficit after the break when Lanzafame played a teasing free kick into the area and Goldaniga redirected his header past a diving Lys Gomis.

The visitors were spurred on by Goldaniga’s goal and threatened three more times in the next 15 minutes including a Falcinelli header which Gomis stopped and although he didn’t save it cleanly the on-loan Torino man miraculously kept the rebound from landing in his net.

The hosts managed to wrestle control back but weren’t able to avoid tragedy when at the half hour mark Pagliarulo bundled over Lanzafame in the area and Falcinelli buried his spot kick to score his sixth goal of the campaign.

A shout for a Perugia handball in the box denied by the referee was the sole remaining action to conclude a gripping match on a beautiful Sicilian evening.
