Juventus’s midfielder Arturo Vidal emphasized the importance of Thursday night’s 3-1 victory at Cagliari to the self-esteem of the team in the closing stages of the calendar year.

Vidal put his name on the score sheet in the 15th minute to double La Vecchia Signora’s lead after Carlos Tevez’s early goal. Fernando Llorente made it 3-0 in the beginning of the second half, while Luca Rosettini scored a consolation goal for the home side shortly after the one-hour mark.

“Today was important to win and we did it well,” Vidal told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“We played against a difficult team and we played a great game.

“It’s important to finish the year in first place.”

Next, the Bianconeri will face Napoli for the Supercoppa Italiana on Monday night.

“Now we think of Napoli, there are four of five days to prepare well for that game and finish the year in the best way possible,” the Chilean international said.

“In 2015 I want to be among the best, and I am working to achieve that.”
