Zdenek Zeman has defended his decision to opt for  a 4-4-2 line up against Juventus despite the early setbacks his side suffered in the game.

Cagliari conceded two early goals as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat against the Bianconeri, leaving many questions for Zeman and his new tactics for the game.

“I chose to play 4-4-2 after getting the feedback on Juventus,” the veteran Czech told Sky Sport Italia.

“They are the best team in Italy and I had to take precautions.

“I played with four centre backs to prevent the best of Juventus and we conceded from a poor cross, we conceded two ugly goals.”

Zeman was also asked about his feelings of the Rossoblu residing in the relegation zone and his level of concern.

“I do not want the team to play just for survival. At this moment we are in a bad way, but the team has plenty of room for improvement.

“We have played many games against the stronger sides in the league and managed to draw or do better, instead today we came up against a very strong Juventus.”
