Walter Zenga has rejected the chance to take up the head coaching role at Cagliari and revealed that he plans on continuing his work in Dubai.

The 54-year-old was seen as Isolani president Tommaso Giulini’s top choice as a replacement for the recently fired Zdenek Zeman, who had failed to lead the club to success this season and has left them sitting in 18th place, but it seems that the struggling Serie A side may now set their sights on Gianfranco Zola instead.

Zenga spoke to Sky Sport Italia about his decision to turn down Cagliari’s offer and thanked the Sardi for even considering him for the position in the first place.

“I’d like to thank president Giulini for thinking of me but it’s with much regret that I’ll have to decline,” said the former Al Jazira boss.

“At this time I intend to stay in Dubai in order to give my contribution to this football movement. It remains a satisfaction to have been contacted by a team like Cagliari.”
