AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has admitted he was ecstatic by the Rossoneri’s 4-2 friendly victory over the recently crowned Club World Cup champions Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old midfielder returned from injury at the end of November after sustaining a broken leg, while representing Italy before the 2014 World Cup.

Speaking after the match in Dubai, Montolivo said he was delighted by the performance and hopes his side can return to the world-class level of the Los Blancos.

“We [AC Milan] are pleased with the game. We are happy that the spectators had a good time,” Montolivo explained as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“We take great satisfaction beating Real Madrid even though it was only a friendly, but it was a good game.

“The Real Madrid players are world-class, they are great champions and we need to try to return to that level. We hope to get there soon.”

Montolivo has accumulated four league appearances since his return from injury.
