AC Milan will reportedly work on rebuilding their defence this summer and plan on selling several of their existing defenders to start from scratch.

Two players thought to be on the chopping block are Philippe Mexes, whose current contract with the Rossoneri is set to expire in June, and Cristian Zapata, who has failed to make much of an impact since his arrival at the Diavolo in 2012, and it seems the struggling duo would be the first to be sold during the summer transfer window.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, AC Milan would be looking to revitalise their defence with younger and more energetic players after offloading Zapata and Mexes, with hopes of restoring the club to its former glory after declining in recent seasons.

The San Siro outfit have won just one of their last five Serie A games since the start of 2015 and currently sit in 10th place on the league table with 26 points.

Milan’s most recent loss came in a 3-1 result against Lazio on Saturday and ended in controversy as Mexes was sent off after starting a brawl with several Biancocelesti players.
