Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri reserved special praise for the performance of out-of-favour Sebastian Giovinco in his side’s 6-1 win over Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia.

The attacker, who looks set to leave the club this month, scored twice and won a penalty which was converted by Alvaro Morata in his side’s big victory.

“The team was not a second string side,” Allegri toldĀ Rai SportĀ afterwards. “Aside from Giovinco and [Simone] Pepe, everyone had played some games this season. I am very happy with their performances but the team played a great tactical game as a whole.

“It is clear from a performance like this that there is room for everyone. We did not rediscover the qualities of Giovinco again tonight, we already knew of this. The problem for him is that we have many great strikers at the club and I have to make choices.

“But he was very good and is an important player for us,” Allegri added. “He has never been on the market. Sometimes players like a change of scenery but this has not been the case with Sebastian.

“Over the course of a season, a player like him can prove fundamental.”
