Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani is edging closer to signing a new contract with the club.
The 30-year-old Italian international has been linked with an exit from the club when his current deal expires at the end of the season, but could now be set to extend his stay in Florence.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Aquilani’s entourage made a breakthrough in contract talks with the club during a meeting on Friday afternoon.
The ex-Liverpool man is thought to be close to signing a new two-year deal with the club, with an option to extend for a further year until 2018.
Though nothing has been finalized, Aquilani now looks set to prolong his stay with the club – an idea that seemed unthinkable only a few months ago.
