Rafa-Benitez-turista-a-NapoliNapoli coach Rafael Benitez felt his side should have scored more goals during Monday’s 2-1 victory over Genoa at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples.

The 54-year-old believes that the hosts deserved to win the game despite their failure in front of goal with Jose Callejon and Jonathan de Guzman missing chances to put the game beyond the Grifone.

“I’m happy because we won, but the winning margin is too small, we had a lot of opportunities to score goals. We deserved to win,” Benitez told Sky Sport Italia.

“I do not want to speak about the referees, if we analyze everything we had about five other chances to score.”

Referee Gianpaolo Calvarese’s performance was scrutinized after the game with both Napoli goals surrounded by controversy. Benitez was tight lipped after the game.

“I said many times that I won’t talk about referees. If we analyse every incident, I think it’s not so easy for Genoa to complain.

“We’ve seen that we can win by scoring two goals with 10 chances. I will say nothing on referees. I like to discuss football.

“I think it was clear that Napoli were superior throughout the game. I saw 10 incidents worth analysing, but I am the coach in Serie A who discusses referees the least. I only spoke about the officials once this season.”
