New Empoli signing Joshua Brillante hopes to emulate his compatriots Vincenzo Grella and Mark Bresciano at his new club, after making the move from Fiorentina.

The 21-year-old Australian international completed an 18-month loan deal with the club last week, and aims to make an impact like Grella and Bresciano, both of whom enjoyed successful stints with the club during their time in the Serie A.

“My first impressions were positive, and I’m very happy to be here in a team that plays good football,” Brillante told reporters at his unveiling.

I hope to impress the coach Sarri. I know the history of my predecessors and I hope to follow in their footsteps and their successes. This is my big chance.

“I really like to battle in the middle of the field and I can alternate with Valdifiori or Vecino because they usually occupy those positions, even though I have different characteristics from them.”
