Alberto Gilardino may be in line for a comeback to Italy with Cagliari and Fiorentina interested in the player.

The former Italian international striker is currently in China with Guangzhou Evergrande but he could be returning to Serie A.

According to Sky Sport Italia, both Cagliari and Fiorentina want to bring Gilardino back to Italian football.

An offer has been made by Cagliari which consists of a €500,000 loan fee for the rest of the season, with the option of a €3 million permanent transfer in the summer.

Cagliari have been keen on Gilardino since new coach Gianfranco Zola re-joined the Sardinian club in December 2014.

While, Fiorentina are also looking to offer Gilardino the chance to renew his career in Italy and have good relations with the Chinese club.

Fiorentina have already signed a former Italian international from Guangzhou this transfer window, in the form of Alessandro Diamanti.

It would be a symbolic return should Gilardino choose Fiorentina as he spent four years at the Artemio Franchi between 2008 and 2012.
