Cesena substitute Alejandro Rodriguez scored the match-winner and hailed his side’s 2–1 away victory over Parma, on Saturday afternoon in Serie A.

Cesena took the lead but conceded the equalizer through Emmanuel Cascione’s own goal. However Alejandro Rodriguez, who had also scored the game-winner the first time both teams met, scored late to give Cesena a crucial victory and three points over Parma.

“We too needed the victory,” Rodriguez said to Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“I am sure that this game will give us the confidence we lacked in the first half of the season.

“Today we were able to react even after the own goal, that is a signal that we can do it.

“We know achieving safety will be very difficult, but we believe in it and now we are even more confident.”

With this victory, Cesena have sealed the double over their fellow relegation candidates Parma. Cesena are three points ahead of Parma but remain on 12 points and seven away from safety.
