PantaniSerie A side Cesena have announced that they will wear their alternative pink jersey at home to Torino on Sunday afternoon, in homage to deceased cyclist Marco Pantani, who would have celebrated his 45th birthday on January 13.

The Cesena-born athlete who was nicknamed Il Pirata due to his shaven head, was arguably one of the greatest climbers of his era in road cycling, winning the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia in 1998, but tragically died in February 2004 at just 34-years-old.

With the Bianconeri currently bottom of the table they will also be hoping that the change in shirt can turnaround their fortunes at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi as they attempt the difficult task of climbing to safety.
