After holding Juventus for 60 minutes until ultimately falling to a two-goal defeat, Chievo coach Rolando Maran reiterated that it is games against such strong opponents that will not determine their Serie A fate.

Sitting in 18th place the Flying Donkeys face a fight to retain top-flight status but would have been dreaming of leaving Turin with a valuable point as the minutes ticked away at the Juventus Stadium only for Paul Pogba and Stephan Lichtsteiner to deny them.

“Our attitude was important,” Maran told Rai Sport.

“We had to play in a specific way against a great Juventus side.

“Our league position will not be affected by these games, even though we gave our maximum today.”

In what was a sometimes physical encounter Gialloblu captain Nicolas Frey left the field on a stretcher bloodied from a clash of heads with Patrice Evra but the 51-year-old confirmed that his injury is not serious.

“I know Frey has a large cut and they are doing the analysis now, but it should be just that.”
