Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono insists he is happy with the performance of his side in their loss against Hellas Verona on Sunday.

The game was decided by a single Javier Saviola strike, and could have been a lot worse for the Nerazzurri were it not for the heroics of Marco Sportiello in goal.

Speaking to Rai Sport after the match, Colantuono insists his side were not bad and, despite the result, he is not overly disappointed.

“I am not too disappointed with the match,” Colantuono began.

“With the exception of the first ten minutes after the break, when we gave Verona too much freedom and they took advantage,” he continued.

He went on to say he feels his side performed well despite the defeat.

“It is unfortunate because we created chances and played well during the match.

“They defended well but we still had chances.

The 52-year-old went on to highlight the importance of their upcoming clash with Cagliari, at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia next week.

“This year we have to fight until the very end.

“The game against Cagliari will prove important.

“It will be a close encounter with a direct rival and we must go into it with the right determination to win.”

Sunday’s defeat has Atalanta continuing to fight for survival at the bottom of Serie A, they currently sit 15th, just two points above the relegation zone.
