Fiorentina midfielder Alessandro Diamanti has spoken of his delight after making his come-back to Italian football following his year long absence in China.

The nomadic veteran played his first game for La Viola in their 1-1 draw with Genoa and has spoken excitedly about his return, as well as analysing his sides hard-fought performance.

“When I came on I was really excited, maybe this return was even better than my debut,” said the 31-year-old to Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a great game and both teams played really well.

“They were dangerous on the counter-attack but we kept ourselves in the game.”

Diamanti then continued, discussing his potential position for his new club.

“I do not mind playing behind two strikers, I will do whatever the coach tells me.

“Today I played as a second striker but if there is a chance to play as a playmaker then I am available.”

The player was also questioned about his relationship with Alberto Gilardino following their joint move from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

“Mine and Gilardino’s friendship is one that will never end, we will always be together.”
