Sampdoria’s new signing Samuel Eto’o has said he will act as a leader for the Blucerchiati.

Eto’o signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Samp and expressed his happiness at signing for the club in his official unveiling on Thursday, whilst also saying that he expects to be in the squad that will face Torino on Sunday.

“I will be a leader in the shadows, one that helps the group with the will to win,” he said.

“We will fight to the end because we have a competitive squad, I’m here to play for the shirt and we want to go as far as possible.

“I expect to play on Sunday against Torino

“I scored against Sampdoria for Inter and my memories of the club are good.”

Eto’o then went in to speak about the neogtiation process, as well as revealing the reason why he chose the shirt number 99.

“When I met the president [Massimo Ferrero] I got the idea of coming here,” he said. “I also had a conversation with the coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic] which went very well.

“I chose the number 99 because my number is always nine, but [Stefano] Okaka has that.

Sampdoria are currently fifth in the Serie A table, two points behind third-placed Napoli.
