Roma coach Rudi Garcia stated that progression in cup competition is the only thing important after his team beat Empoli 2-1 in extra time.
Giallorossi needed a late Daniele De Rossi penalty in extra time to secure progression in what was a lackluster showing.
Speaking to Rai Sports, Garcia said,” In the Coppa Italia the most important thing is to qualify and which we did secure. We wasted a lot of chances and then conceded on a counter attack.”
Garcia also took out time to applaud his opponents, who gave his team a tough match and played till the very end,”Congratulations to Empoli as they caused us a lot of problems with their pressing. Despite that we created at least 30 chances but couldn’t finish them, but all that matters is we qualified.”
The penalty Empoli conceded seemed contentious but there was no doubt in Roma’s coach mind,” I haven’t seen the images but I was informed that it was a clear penalty.”
