Gasperini - GenoaGenoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini is hopeful the Rossoblu can carry their strong form over to the second half the season as they prepare to take on Champions League rivals Napoli on Monday.

The Grifone have been one of the surprises of the first half of the season, so much so that Gasperini believes his side are being viewed as serious challengers by other clubs after years of being relegation battlers.

“Genoa have once again garnered respect and consideration. I would sign up for a repeat to the first half of the season,” he stated at his pre-match press conference.

“We expect a difficult match against Napoli against a strong squad that are going through a great run of form.

“All the matches are important. Even if we don’t have the same objectives as Napoli and we will be subject to a bad look if we say, for example, we are looking to win the Scudetto, it does not mean we do not have goals.

“We prefer to live in reality and it is the field that gives answers. The group is providing guarantees and satisfaction as they have returned to being compact and with spirit.”

Gasperini also commented on the recent signing of AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang on loan, as the tactician believes the joining the Grifone could allow him to finally settle in Italy.

“He is 20-years-old, he can find the right atmosphere and squad to maximize his characteristics, making him dangerous in space as a striker or winger. I really think he will be able to develop his skills.”
