Genoa’s Gian Piero Gasperini has rubbished claims within the city’s local media that there is a sour atmosphere within the dressing room at present.

Flying high at the start of December following a 1-0 win over AC Milan, they have lost three and drawn one of their next four games leading to speculation of unsettlement in the camp.

“I do not think whatsoever that there is a negative environment here,” Gasperini told the media in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash against Sassuolo. “We have 27 points and we feel very close as a group, with ourselves and the fans.

“The latest results have left a bitter taste in our mouths but this is our chance to end the first round of fixtures in the best possible way. Sassuolo are a dangerous team, the club are investing and are having a positive season.

“Do we have weaknesses in attack? We have strong players like Iago, Lestienne and Fetfazidis so we can do well. I do not think we can utilise the aerial game and crossing the ball in this match and must improve our scoring and defending from set-pieces.

“We want to increase our attention and concentration starting again with Sassuolo.”
