Torino defeated Inter 1-0 at the San Siro on Sunday afternoon in Serie A action, thanks to a last minute Emiliano Moretti goal.

Both sides went into the encounter in good form with Roberto Mancini’s Inter unbeaten in their last seven Serie A encounters, while Gianpiero Ventura’s Torino were unbeaten in their last six league fixtures.

Both sides lacked a clinical edge in front of goal but the Granata came away victorious through a last minute Emiliano Moretti header, despite good opportunities from Inter’s Lukas Podolksi and with the Nerazzuri controlling 70 percent of possession.

The home side controlled much of the early possession as Torino looked to challenge Inter on the counter attack, although the Nerazzurri dealt with any threats comfortably.

The home side were looking the more dangerous in and around their opponent’s penalty but struggled to turn their control into any goal scoring opportunities until Lukas Podolski tested Daniele Padelli’s goal with a low driven shot.

The Granata continued their counter attacking approach and looked dangerous as Marco Benassi crossed to find Josef Martinez inside the box but the Venezuelan struggled to control the ball and hit his effort over the bar.

Nemanja Vidic headed over from a corner and Rodrigo Palacio caused Torino difficulty with a dangerous cross and a darting run into the box but on both occasions the Argentina international came out second best as the defence cleared to safety.

Torino came out for the second half in fighting spirit and hit a powerful shot wide after 20 seconds but Inter also appeared transformed early in the second period as Podolski had a powerful shot saved from the edge of the box.

Martinez headed just over the bar from a corner for the away side and Torino had their best opportunity of the game just moments later.

The ball arrived at the feet Benassi, who cut the ball back from the right flank to find Alexander Farnerud on the edge of the box, but the Swede’s attempt on goal was poor as the tame effort sailed over the bar.

Torino were creating the better scoring opportunities and tested Samir Handanovic’s goal as Cristian Molinaro had his shot saved from the edge of the box but both sides stagnated and struggled to create chances as the game entered the final ten minutes.

Guarin cleared the crossbar again and Joel Obi’s driven shot went wide following a poorly cleared ball from the Torino defence.

Torino got a dramatic late winner as Moretti headed into the centre of the Inter goal as Maxi Lopez headed on to the Italian defender following a corner to break Nerazzurri hearts and send the three points back to Turin.
