New Parma president Ermir Kodra has revealed that the Ducali were very close to signing Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli before talks between the two sides broke down.

The 29-year-old was revealed as Parma’s new president earlier this week and has shed light on the club’s plans moving forward by revealing that despite missing out on Balotelli, the Gialloblu are keen to sign a high profile striker in January.

“We have signed several top quality players, we are looking for other top players,” he stated while speaking to Supersport.

“We were close, very close to Mario Balotelli but we weren’t able to close the deal.

“However sporting director [Pietro] Leonardi is working to bring us the striker we need.”

Kodra also touched on the club’s delicate financial situation, revealing he is confident the club’s new ownership can turn things around.

“The club’s financial situation is fairly complicated but our strategy will look at the economic and sporting aspects in order to achieve results.

“It is difficult but not impossible and we want to strengthen ourselves with a great striker.”
