Inter’s on-loan forward Lucas Podolski pointed out the lack of playing time as the main reason why he wanted to temporarily leave Arsenal.

Despite putting up solid performances in the Champions League group stage this season, the German international never won Arsene Wenger’s trust for the Premier League fixtures and he was periodically left on the bench.

“For me it is not a problem to be on the bench at Arsenal, but it was happening too often,” Podolski told La Stampa.

“I scored two goals [against Galatasaray] in the Champions League and they left me out.

“I did not like that but then, fortunately, the call from [Roberto] Mancini came.”

Inter paid the Gunners €600,000 to have the former Köln and Bayern Munich man for the remainder of the season, but it is not clear yet whether the Nerazzurri will then have the opportunity to purchase him on a permanent basis.

“We will see, I don’t like to make proclamations,” Podolski said.

“At the moment I am very happy.”
