Lazio are reportedly looking at Genoa star Alessandro Matri as a potential replacement for injured striker Filip Djordjevic.

Serbian forward Djordjevic underwent surgery on Tuesday after suffering a fractured ankle, with speculation suggesting he could miss the remainder of the Serie A campaign.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, a meeting was held on Thursday evening between officials of the two clubs over a possible switch to Rome for red-hot goalscorer Matri, who is currently enjoying a successful temporary spell at Genoa from parent club AC Milan.

The 30-year-old Italian international struggled for form at the San Siro, but has since notched seven times in 16 appearances for the Grifone.

Biancocelesti head coach Stefano Pioli remains a big fan of former Juventus man Matri and is said to be the driving force behind the transfer enquiry.
