Lazio have apparently opened preliminary talks with the agent of Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Speculation that the former AC Milan man could leave Anfield has been rife given his poor form with the Reds – just two goals in 18 appearances – with Parma putting in an offer to take him on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has been left out of the last to Liverpool squads with the official reason given as flu, but according to Sport Mediaset, there has been a breakdown in relations between Balotelli and manager Brendan Rodgers.

As a result, Lazio have been put on alert and have begun preliminary talks with his agent Mino Raiola, with view of Balotelli replacing Miroslav Klose at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.

The 36-year-old German looks set to leave Lazio at the end of the season after losing his place in the first team to Filip Djordjevic.
