Lazio are interested in offering Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli a return to Serie A during the January transfer window.

The player has failed to settle on Merseyside since returning to England from Milan for a fee of around €20 million during the summer. Balotelli has struggled in front of goal and is yet to find the net during Liverpool’s league campaign in 12 appearances.

According to Sportmediaset, the former Inter and Manchester City forward could move to the eternal City on a six-month loan deal, with Liverpool contributing 30% of his salary.

The 24-year-old Italian international turned down a move to Parma earlier in the transfer window, rejecting the move to stay and fight for his place at the Reds.

The Biancocelesti are hoping to tempt the forward back to Italy with the lure of a Champions League challenge.

Lazio currently occupy fifth place in the standings, two points adrift of the coveted third Champions League spot.
