Lichtsteiner - JuventusJuventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has revealed that he’s thankful for Paul Pogba’s great performance against Chievo on Sunday and admits that the Gialloblu were a tough side to face.

The Bianconeri managed to secure a 2-0 win over the Flying Donkeys in Turin with Pogba scoring the first goal and playing an important part in the second, which was scored by Lichtsteiner, and the 31-year-old is happy for the win but admits that Juve’s spot at the top of the Serie A table isn’t guaranteed until the end of the season.

Lichtsteiner spoke to Sky Sport Italia following the victory over Chievo about his goal and Pogba’s impressive showing, while also commenting on why he decided to recently sign a contract extension with Juventus.

“We knew it would be a very difficult game, Chievo are a side that always put up a fight,” said the Swiss international.

“Thank goodness Pogba was there, we really needed him. He even helped with the second goal, as he took a shot and I was ready for the ball after the goalkeeper rejected it.

“What does it mean to be eight points ahead of Roma for now? It means nothing, what counts is where we are at the end.

“I used to play as a striker when I was a boy as well. But more importantly, now as a defender I know what they don’t like to deal with in the defensive areas.

“What convinced me to stay at Juventus? The team and our goal to win and fight hard on all fronts. The big dream is to win the Champions League, this is what prompted me to sign a renewal.

“I decided to stay because I hold so much belief in this group.”
