Empoli assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello believes that his side were deserving of all three points from their match against Roma, despite being held to a 1-1 draw.

The 43-year-old spoke in place of coach coach Maurizio Sarri, who was sent to the stands after making comments towards the referee in a match that saw Empoli take the lead through a first half penalty from Massimo Maccarone before Maicon levelled the score early in the second.

“Today we deserved the victory,” the stand-in interviewee commented to Sky Sport Italia.

“The game was approached the way we wanted to. We had to play well to get a result, pushing forward as we don’t know how to play while waiting for the opponent.”

The Azzurri offered very little in terms of attacking threat throughout the match, but Martusciello refused to blame the forwards for failing to carve out chances.

“If the attackers don’t finalize the blame cannot be with just one area.”

  1. He’s right. Another biased direction from the referee. I’m really sick
