Roma have announced that they have officially signed Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in a permanent deal on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old had originally arrived at the Stadio Olimpico outfit on a season-long loan from the Premier League side in September 2014 and has since earned a solid place in coach Rudi Garcia’s line up after proving his worth to the tactician throughout the first half of the campaign.

The Giallorossi released an official statement through ASRoma.it on Tuesday regarding the purchase of Yanga-Mbiwa, revealing the total fee paid for his services.

“After the fulfilment of condition-based contractual obligations included in the agreement signed with Newcastle United Limited on September 1, 2014 for the transfer of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, the deal will now be made permanent for a fee of £5.5 million [7m],” read the statement.

The French international has provided one assist in his 14 Serie A appearances for the Lupi this term thus far.
