Alvaro Morata and Cristiano RonaldoThere were no surprises on the FIFA Ballon d’Or ballot of Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon as the veteran named Cristiano Ronaldo as his top player of the year.

The award for 2014 was handed out on Monday with the Portuguese star winning his third award, which includes his 2008 win when the trophy was simply known as the Ballon d’Or.

Ronaldo took home 37.66 percent of the votes, with Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer receiving 15.76 and 15.72 percent of the votes respectively.

Buffon’s ballot read the same as the final tally, with the Juventus shotstopper placing fellow custodian Neuer third on his ballot behind the Real Madrid and Barcelona stars.

Italy coach Antonio Conte named a similar ballot with Ronaldo as his winner, while Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba finished 22nd on the final voting list out of a possible 23 players.
