Roma are reportedly still in the market for a central defender before the January transfer window closes and coach Rudi Garcia is said to have identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Vlad Chiriches as his main target.
The 25-year-old Romanian has been out-of-favour at White Hart Lane this season and Garcia is hoping to bolster his defensive options having been without Leandro Castan since September due to a condition which eventually led to the Brazilian undergoing brain surgery.
Castan is now on the road to recovery but is unexpected to feature in the near future and Gazzetta dello Sport report that Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini has been instructed to work on a deal for Chiriches.
Meanwhile Roma forward Mattia Destro, who has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, reportedly prefers a move to AC Milan ruling him out of any potential deal for Chiriches.
