Roma have announced that midfielder Kevin Strootman is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome left knee.

The Dutch international missed the 2014 FIFA World Cup and a large portion of the Giallorossi’s current campaign after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a clash with Napoli in March.

Strootman returned to Holland to visit Kerkhoffs and van Dijk, the surgeons who performed his operation after sustaining the initial injury, where it was confirmed he will undergo another procedure.

“Yesterday Kevin Strootman underwent further diagnostic procedures with professors Van Dijk and Kerkhoffs, who previously operated on him,” a Roma club statement read.

“The player is due to undergo arthroscopic surgery in Amsterdam tomorrow, during which the ligament will also be assessed.”

The 24-year-old has been the subject of consistent speculation regarding a move to Manchester United, where he would join former international coach Louis Van Gaal.
