Roma’s efforts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano have been dealt a blow after the Ukrainian champions indicated that they were still awaiting a suitable offer.

The Giallorossi are in the market for a striker and were thought to have been close to wrapping up a deal for the Brazilian. Despite this latest setback, talks are ongoing and the capital club are still optimistic that they will get their man before the transfer window shuts.

Speaking to Football 1, Shakhtar’s CEO Sergei Palkin claimed that the deal was far from dead, although any movement would depend on a greater offer being submitted by Roma.

“We are still negotiating but the offer is not suitable at this moment in time. We will see what will happen in the coming days.”

Luiz Adriano has been in prolific form this season, leading the Champions League goal-scoring chart with nine as Shakhtar progressed to the last-16.
