Serie B returned after a two-week break with nine matches on Saturday including Brescia pulling themselves out of the relegation scrap by demolishing Frosinone 3-1 at the Stadio Rigamonti.

Coach Ivan Javorcic has guided the Rondinelle to seven points in his four matches in charge as they throttled Frosinone from the start and were rewarded when Andrea Caracciolo pressured the Canarini defense into a giveaway which led to an unfortunate own goal when the ball bundled off Matteo Ciofani inside 10 minutes. Serie-B-300x181

The home side took full advantage of a weakened Frosinone who were missing five key players due to injuries and suspensions and had one decent chance in first half on Daniel Ciofani’s bicycle kick.

The 33-year old Caracciolo was once again at the heart of Brescia’s second goal when he caught keeper Mirko Pigliacelli hopelessly off his line and played a simple square pass to Daniele Corvia who slotted home his first of the season.

Substitute Davis Curiale pulled one back for Roberto Stellone’s ten minutes from time against the run of play, but when pressing for the equalizer Valerio Di Cesare easily skipped past Pigliacelli in stoppage time to secure the victory.

Virtus Lanciano crushed a reeling Catania side 3-0 who are now in free fall and on their third coach of the season in Dario Marcolin. The 43-year old had two weeks to prepare the Elefanti but the Frentani outplayed the Sicilians throughout the day despite not scoring until Gaetano Manochello’s chested goal on the stroke of half time and finishing with only 10 men.

A calamitous second goal encapsulated Catania’s season when Gaston Sauro inexplicably didn’t let his keeper claim an errant through ball instead touching it onto the path of Leonardo Gatto who tapped the ball into an empty net early in the second half.

The Valeri Bojinov show paced Ternana to a 2-1 victory over Crotone as the Bulgarian scored his first goals of the season. Bojinov first put Ternana up inside five minutes on a perfectly curled shot which settled just under the crossbar but it was his 30-meter right footed volley strike in the second half which left the Stadio Liberati faithful stunned and reminded everyone of the ability Bojinov can flash.

Pescara traveled to Sicily in a goal fest beating Trapani by a 4-2 margin. The Delfini’s Crisitan Pasquato’s first half brace, including a deft chest control move-and-turn leading to a stunning volley, sandwiched a fortuitous rebounded shot which rattled the crossbar and fell to Simone Basso who made good on the second bite of the apple and had the guests trailing by a goal at the half.

Trapani’s Matteo Mancuso leveled the score in the opening minute by breezing past Dario Zuparic and burying his pile driver shot past a stunned Simone Aresti. The visitors quickly answered by dominating the remaining chances and and cruising to gain a seat at the crowded Serie B playoff table.

Cittadella-Modena, Pro Vercelli-Avellino and Spezia-Varese all finished with identical 1-1 score lines while Latina-Vicenza and Bari-Virtus Entella finished goal less.
