Kevin Strootman - RomaRoma midfielder Kevin Strootman will be out with a knee injury for longer than expected.

The 24-year-old suffered knee ligament damage in March 2014, resulting in around seven months out, before returning to action in November last year, making six Serie A appearances since.

However, following a knock in the match against Fiorentina, the Dutchman complained of discomfort and underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove scar tissue from the previous injury, which was deemed a mere precaution.

Now, Strootman has revealed on Twitter that he will be out for a longer period than first thought.

“The scar tissue from my previous operation has been removed successfully today,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately some cartilaginous damage, caused by the knock in the Fiorentina match, was found too.

“This means I have to take a longer rest period than anticipated earlier and I am extremely disappointed that it will take much longer before I can be back on the pitch again.”
