Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa believes that the capital city club still have time to catch up to league leaders Juventus in the Serie A standings as long as they can secure positive results for the remainder of the season.

The Giallorossi have fallen off the winning path as of late, drawing in four out of their last five league matches, and now sit seven points behind the Bianconeri in the standings, though the 25-year-old insists that all great teams go through hard times before coming out on top.

Yanga-Mbiwa spoke to Sky Sport Italia about Roma’s mission to take first place from Juventus and commented on the club’s struggles in recent months as they prepare to face Empoli on Saturday.

“We’re in second place at the moment and even though seven points may seem like a lot, two wins for us and two defeats for Juventus would put us right back in the running,” said the French international.

“It’s up to us to get back to winning again, then we can worry about dealing with Juve at the end.

“Juventus have been more consistent this season so far, but the campaign is long and all teams go through tough moments, or lack results at times.”
