Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri felt his side kept their heads admirably in their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Allegri’s side were pressed into some mistakes during the first half of the contest, but eventually came out the stronger to seal a 2-1 first-leg win.

“We deserved the victory,” said Allegri when speaking to Sky Italia after the match at the Juventus Stadium.

“But it could have been by a wider margin, as we had many opportunities, especially in the second half.

“We didn’t give anything to Borussia Dortmund, who we know are a quality side.

“We could’ve made more of our chances on the break, but we are happy.”

Allegri also offered complimentary words for the Bianconeri’s opponents ahead of their second-leg meeting in Germany.

“Borussia Dortmund have great technique and pace,” continued Allegri.

“It was a very tactical game. In these sorts of games you must be mentally strong.

“We were unable to dominate our opponents, but we were careful in our play and produced a good second half performance.”

Andrea Pirlo limped off injured during the opening period of the contest and Allegri was asked for an update on his condition.

“We can’t say anything yet,” said Allegri of his play-maker Pirlo.

“Hopefully it’s not a serious injury. There’ll be examinations on the problem tomorrow.”
