Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes that striker Mario Balotelli is improving, after a poor start to life at the club.

The Italy international recently netted his first English Premier League goal for the Reds, and boosted his recovery by scoring the winner in Thursday’s Europa League tie against Besiktas, but Fowler thinks he may be best suited to a “super-sub” role.

“The important thing as a substitute is to come on and try to make a difference, and he has certainly done that,” said the 39-year-old to the Daily Star.

“He was instrumental in the winner against Tottenham and getting the assist for the winner against Crystal Palace, that’s everything you want as a sub, and we want him to keep doing that.

“He’s certainly looking better now and maybe the performances in the last couple of games will benefit him.”

Balotelli made the €21 million switch to Liverpool from Serie A’s AC Milan last summer.
