The club currently sit second in the Serie B, and chasing automatic promotion to the top flight next season and wanted the out-of-favor Borini to bolster their attack.

The 23-year-old Italian international has spent most of the season on the bench, and has regularly been linked with a move back to his homeland.

Borini’s agent, Marco De Marchi, also confirmed that talks took place, but that the striker wanted to see out the season with Liverpool before making a call on his future.

“I appreciated the efforts of the club in their attempt for Fabio,” De Marchi told Tuttomercatoweb.
